Life Skills - Healthy Sleep Habits

Life skills are defined as skills that are necessary or desirable for full participation in everyday life. Regularly getting a healthy night’s sleep is a skill most teenagers lack, and this deficit is magnified for students in unhealthy living environments.

Last week CSULB nursing student Jeremy engaged students in our Life Skills - Healthy Sleep Habits class. He discussed what “good” sleep is, its importance, why it is so crucial for teens, and how it affects everything from your mood and brainpower to your weight and nutrition. Jeremy discussed the detriments of insufficient sleep, and he provided tips and strategies for consistently getting a good night’s sleep including sleep routines, less screen time, taking naps, and much more.

Teaching our students the importance of being proactive about their health and wellness is part of our mission in guiding these teens to break their cycles and change their lives.

Thank you to Jeremy for a great presentation, and to Carolyn Dimarco for providing a chicken piccata dinner which the students devoured!
