She Bought a Car! Self-Sufficiency in Action
Big milestones don’t always involve a cap and gown. Sometimes, self-sufficiency looks like the turn of a key in a used car that you bought with your own hard-earned savings.
Recently, one of our Robyne’s Nest students reached a goal she’s been working toward for months: buying her first car.
This wasn’t just an impulsive purchase. It was a masterclass in responsibility. Our student didn’t just save for the sticker price; she planned for insurance, future repairs, and long-term maintenance. That kind of forward-thinking is exactly what "Breaking Cycles & Changing Lives" looks like in action.
It Takes a Village (and a couple of "Car Guys")
She didn’t have to navigate the daunting world of used car lots alone. Our Student Care Team was by her side, but we also had some heavy hitters in her corner. Huge thanks to two of our incredible volunteers, Bret Berg and Ken Deagle. As our resident "car guys," they generously donated their time to inspect vehicles, weigh the pros and cons, and make sure she drove away in something safe and dependable.
The Road Ahead
Reliable transportation is a game-changer. It means getting to class on time, holding down a job, and having the freedom to navigate adult life with confidence.
And the momentum is building! Right now, three more Robyne’s Nest students have just earned their driver’s permits. Whether they are in Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa, or any of our neighboring cities, each permit represents a step away from survival mode and a leap toward thriving.
To Bret, Ken, and everyone who supports our mission—thank you for helping our students navigate the road to independence.
