Life Skills - Vision Boards

Vision Boards & Big Dreams: Kicking Off 2026 with Intention

On a recent January evening, the tables at Robyne’s Nest were covered in magazines, glue sticks, and colorful cut-outs. Students leaned over their projects, carefully arranging images of books, beaches, kitchens, far‑off cities, and bold words like hope and new year.

This was our first Life Skills workshop of 2026, and we started the year by helping students create vision boards — a simple but powerful way to turn dreams into something they can see, touch, and work toward.

Why Vision Boards Matter

Many of the students we serve are carrying far more than homework on their shoulders. They’re balancing school with jobs, helping siblings, and navigating housing and food insecurity. It can be hard to think about the future when you’re worried about today.

Vision boards give students a moment to pause and ask, What do I want my life to look like? Maybe it’s graduating high school, learning to cook healthy meals, traveling one day, or finding a peaceful place to call home. As they flip through magazines and choose images that speak to them, they begin to name their goals.

Those goals become more than ideas. They become something they can point to on the poster in front of them.

Life Skills in Action

Our Life Skills program is all about helping at‑risk and homeless youth build the tools they need for life after graduation — things like budgeting, meal planning, time management, and career exploration.

During this workshop, staff and volunteers sat beside students as they cut and glued. Conversations naturally turned to the stories behind each image:

  • A bookshelf might represent going to college or finishing a certification.

  • A kitchen scene might symbolize learning to cook for themselves or for a future family.

  • A plane or the ocean might reflect a dream to travel or to feel a sense of freedom and possibility.

By the end of the evening, each student walked away with a vision board that was uniquely theirs — a visual reminder that their goals are valid, and that they’re not alone in working toward them.

Breaking Cycles & Changing Lives

At Robyne’s Nest, we believe that when students are surrounded by consistent support — food, housing, transportation, therapy, and life skills — they can focus on school and build a future they’re excited about. Workshops like this are one small but meaningful way we help students see beyond their current circumstances and imagine what’s possible.

When you support Robyne’s Nest, you’re helping local youth in Huntington Beach and surrounding communities move from survival mode to stability and hope.
